For millennia, cultures around the world built pyramids from Egypt and Sudan to Mexico, the Canary Islands and beyond; some were tombs, some were temples and some may have been aligned with the heavens or built above hidden chambers and underground complexes; but why did so many ancient people, separated by oceans and centuries, return to the same monumental shape? Were pyramids simply the most practical way to build toward the sky or could they reveal a deeper pattern of sacred knowledge?
